Self Help Entrepreneur Tips | Negative Job Practices to Avoid

Even if you don't really love your job, you still need to respect the fact that you are being paid by your employer to actually contribute to the profitability and growth of this Company, not just to 'show up' for a set amount of hours every week.

If you hate your job, its up to you to make the effort to find a job that you want to show up for every day. In the meantime, it is your responsibility to earn your salary and the right to keep this job.

You might even find that when you make a more concerted effort and apply yourself and your creative energies to your daily work, that you start to feel a sense of achievement and start to enjoy it. Then you would be much more likely to be considered for new roles within the Company and for any promotions that come up.

So here are a few tips to get you started on the right track and not committing negative job practices that will ruin your reputation and future job prospects:

When you go to work, you need to show that you respect the rules and regulations set by the company. Some people, particularly the upper management, find it extremely insensitive and disrespectful when a staff comes in late.

When a meeting has been scheduled for that day, you must particularly be more conscious about the time. It’s also more annoying when you fail to give notice about your absence or when you let them know midday that you will be unable to come to work.

Career experts from all over say that employers shouldn’t take for granted the time their people report for work. When you are always late, you’re basically telling your boss that you don’t value their time and can’t keep yourself on schedule.

The simple solution would be to make it a priority to be punctual every morning. If you’re battling with chronic lateness, move the time up on your watch, pick out your clothes the night before, keep a clock on every room of the house, and don’t be too much of an optimist.

If you know it takes you a long time to get dressed and reach the office, don’t expect to reach your goal with very little time left. You need to constantly remind yourself of the cost of being late and the payoffs of being on time.

You’re basically creating a reputation for yourself, and this is not the best one to establish. People might feel that they won’t be able to trust you or rely on you, so it impacts your relationship and self-esteem.

Another destructive attitude is when you are unwilling to do some things because it isn’t part of your job description. This shows that aside from being a poor team player, you have no concern for the welfare of others. You’re just present for your own personal gain.

It would be difficult to delegate responsibilities to someone with such constricted, self-centered point of view. Rule is, you shouldn’t wait to be asked to do something. Walk up to your boss and ask him if there’s anything else you can do for him.

When you show that you are enthusiastic about your work, the big honchos will find this refreshing. Don’t shirk from unpleasant tasks. If you are asked to do something, just do it. Always go around acting like a can-do, take charge go-getter. Create a winning image.

A passive attitude is also just as unacceptable. The big dogs can’t stand lack of enthusiasm because this leads to a sub-par performance and mediocre results. Bosses tend to be more impressed by displays of enthusiasm or interest than anything else.

Showing eagerness demonstrates that you are hardworking and that you care about the company. Smile when you see your superior and when you are assigned tasks or projects. Rise to the challenges held in front of you and be positive about new opportunities.

Most importantly, let your eagerness show in your work. Make the extra effort no matter how menial the task is because enthusiasm is contagious. Having a passion for your work inspires others to rally around you.
