You've seen the signs along the road and read the
magazine articles that promote the dream of network marketing:
work at home, make great money and have time to do the things
you want to do. We've heard the scenario, but few obtain it.
The reason many people don't become successful at network
marketing is that they begin a "dream-based" opportunity and
never turn it into a "reality-based" business focused on
fulfilling their dreams. Only professional network marketers obtain the dream because
they ALL have climbed the following 10 steps to success.
The first step is to make your opportunity a business withinyour mind and in other people's eyes. You have tobelieve it is a business, and they have to see it as a business. So, establish a written financial plan including how muchmoney you will invest, a time schedule for your investmentreturn, tax records, office space, equipment needs andmaterials. The incredible part of the network marketingBUSINESS is that your business can be up and running for thecost of your initial fee + $35. The $35 should include:the addition of 3-way calling to your phone bill, a taxnotebook, tax receipt box, daily appointment calendar andbusiness cards. The second step is to WRITE YOUR GOALS DOWN AND A LIST OF100 PROSPECTS. Professional Network Marketers plan foraction and have an action plan. Writing down specific goalspromotes a direct path of action and business priorities.Research has proven several times over that people withwritten goals are more likely to achieve them. Also include aprospect list of 100 people within your goal list. Keep a penand pad of paper with you so that when someone comes acrossyour mind that might have a need for your product, service oropportunity, then add them to the list. The next obviousstep is take action toward your goals. The third step is obtaining support when you need it foreducation, support and training. Get to know your businesspartners. part of this wonderful network marketing businessset-up is that your upline (partner) gets paid when you aresuccessful. Successful people align themselves with uplinewho are active and successful in the business and thenlearn from them (not depend on them). Your upline shouldbe available as a key resource in the beginning for knowledgeyou may lack. In addition, your upline should also be asupport system in recruiting others, until you have yourown success story to share. The fourth step IS learning to be self-employed. Especiallyin the beginning with part-time hours, you MUST designate timeand allocate that time to action which will bring you tofull-time status. Plan your day including working yourprospect list, follow-up calls with prospects, developmentcalls with new distributors, encouragement calls with leadersand education or personal development time. Where manydistributors fail is in continuously "getting ready" to takeaction and never actually making the calls on theirrecruitment list and making few calls for follow-up withprospects. Just remember that if your appointment book is empty,your pockets will be empty. The fifth step is provide support to your downline.As a professional network marketer/leader/business owner, itis vital that you show support to your downline. They need tobe able to contact you on the telephone or through e-mail. Asyou grow larger provide them with conference calls, trainingcalls and meetings. Your job is being available to yourdownline for education, training, support and with contactrecruitment. Beware, some people will perceive you as beingthere to build the business for them. You can't do that--itdoesn't work. They must build their own downline with yoursupport. To do this well you must know your business customer(distributor) types and provide excellent customer service. There are several types of distributors that make up your business. Active/Regular Distributors - These distributors love theproduct or service and want to get it for wholesale orfree. They will in turn, purchase it on a monthly basis to getthe lowest price and will "share" the benefits andsavings with their close inner circle. These distributorsaccount for approximately 25% of your business. Part-Time "Mom and Pops" - These distributors desire extraincome. They work 5-7 hours a week, listen to companyinformational or recruiting calls, attend meetings intheir area and add new distributors for the product, serviceor opportunity on average of one every two weeks. In addition,they "talk" to most people they encounter about the product,service or opportunity. These distributors account forapproximately 70% of your business. Business Builders - whether Part-time or Full-time, are actively"looking" for someone, anyone who might be interested in theproduct, service or opportunity on a daily basis. Just as your"job" is a part of you approximately 20-40 hours a week, their"BUSINESS" is part of them approximately 20-40 hours a week.They don't eliminate anyone. If they are truly businessbuilders you will find them doing all these steps. Keep in mindthat these distributors account for only about 5% of yourbusiness. Regardless of the distributor type, you must provide excellent"customer/distributor service." This means maintainingrelationships with them through ongoing education and contact. Now we come to the turn-key step. The sixth step isconsistently follow a simple, duplicatable system.You've heard the expression "Keep it Simple"; well it's the truth.You need a system from the company or from your upline or youneed to develop a system that anyone can reduplicate. It mustinclude the following pieces to be complete: how to contactsomeone, what to say, what to give, how to follow-up and how totrain the next person to do the exact same thing. The systemmust sponsor, train and support, so the new distributor sponsors,trains in the same way and teaches the new distributorto sponsor, train and support in the same way. It's repetitive,yet effective. Then you have reduplicated yourself. If you don't follow a systemnor train your downline and have the attitude that it's okay to doit anyway they like, then that is proven to fail. There are manysystems out there in many companies, but often they are missing atleast one of the pieces to the recruiting system or thedistributors do not follow them. Hence, solid duplication NEVERoccurs. It's as simple as "monkey see, monkey do." If youhaven't had success in the past, select a system that has ALL ofthe pieces above and do it 100 times and you will find thatpersistence and repetition pay off. Be persistent about being consistent, and be consistent aboutbeing persistent. The seventh step is optimising communication skillsand channels. in our world of advanced communicationprofessional network marketers must utilize the systems availableto them to maximize their communications and leverage their time.With few exceptions, hotel recruiting meetings and mailing packagesare becoming things of the past. Whereas,telephone 3-ways, conference calls, internet web-sites and e-mailare today's communication channels. The "sharing" with the peopleyou come in contact with is an excellent way to establish close tohome businesses, but large networks are recruited, built andtrained world-wide through telephone and computer systems. The eighth step is using effective means ofadvertising to make yourself visible. What productscome to mind when you think of these words? Little green lizard"I'm a geco, not a GEICO" - (GEICO Insurance); "Give it to Mikey.He'll eat it. He'll eat anything" - (LIFE cereal); "The RealThing" - (Coca Cola). What do these advertisements have incommon? Visibility. You see them or hear them almost every dayand you associate them with a product because it's engrained inyour mind. Even major companies know that if they want tocontinue to make money, then they have to continually remind youof their product. Network marketing is EXACTLY the same. Let's say that your business is related to health in some way.You want to have provided them with enough information totrigger their thoughts towards your product or service whenthey are making lunch, working out at the gym or walking throughthe grocery store. The more you advertise, the more chances youhave for successful recruitment. Remember, by checking morepeople off your prospect list you have a greater chance forsuccess. This means advertising to them either by word-of mouth,e-mail, web-site or your business card. Advertising often andadvertising well is a must. Keep this simple advertising formulain mind. The AIDA principle targets: A - Getting Their Attention,I - Sparking Their Interest, D - Building Desire, and A - Tellingthem what Action to take. Just remember, the more visible youare, the more chances you have to find the people who want whatyou have. The ninth step is FOLLOW-UP. This step encompasses yourprospect list, your simple duplicatable system and your advertising.Without follow-up the other steps are useless. Think of follow-upas relationship building. How many times can you say you have arelationship with someone after one brief contact. Follow-upwith phone calls, letters, e-mails or autoresponders is the nextstep in building the relationship. Without relationshipsponsoring little happens. This is the step that so many amateurnetwork marketers miss and it is the step ALL professionalnetworkers do well. The tenth step is PERSISTENCE. Often, even though they knowbetter, people have in the back of their minds that networkmarketing is a get-rich-quick scheme. That when they sign-up bypaying $100, use the product for a month and tell 3 people abouthow great it is, they should be rich. It's just not so. Thetruth is that you need to have a product, service or opportunitythat you can sincerely believe in. You need to be committed toworking a duplicatable system with your chosen upline and company,day in, day out, for a solid year to reap the benefits.
