KPMG Professional Experience
Until January 2003, I was a Director in the National Information Risk Management practice of KPMG based in Melbourne. In this role, I specialised in advising clients on Information Technology Project Risk Management (PRM). Prior to this, I was Regional Director for KPMG Consulting for South Australia, based in Adelaide. In this role, I led all of KPMG Consulting’s activities in South Australia.
Before moving to Adelaide, I was based in Melbourne as the National Professional Practice Director for KPMG Consulting in Australia, responsible for the Consulting Firm’s professional practice and quality policies and procedures, including ISO9000 certification. I also fulfilled the role of National Consulting Risk Manager which incorporated responsibility for professional practice reviews across the country. In addition, I coordinated all national core consulting skills and methodology training.
I joined KPMG in the UK in 1984. I managed and participated in many information technology consulting projects predominantly in the manufacturing sector. I was the Director of the SE Asia Resource Centre for Manufacturing Consultancy based in Malaysia from 1993-95. I joined KPMG Melbourne office in November 1995.
Professional services experience
FACILITATION AND TRAINING
I was an active member of the firm’s internal training faculty, preparing and delivering courses to hundreds of consultants over the years. I also facilitated training for clients including: ANZ, Philip Morris and Robert Bosch. Courses facilitated include: Core Consulting Skills, Advanced Consulting Skills, Project Management, Interviewing Techniques and Presentation Skills.
GENERAL IT ASSISTANCE
More than 30 years experience in information technology has enabled me to provide general IT assistance to many clients. I have assisted many clients to identify clearly the nature of the IT assistance required.
INTEGRATED VENDOR SOLUTIONS
An expert on integrated vendor solutions - the adoption of enterprise resource package software, I was previously a Director in the Integrated Vendor Solutions Group in Melbourne. In addition, I have assisted many clients with the selection and implementation of integrated vendor solutions.
DYNAMIC SYSTEMS PLANNING
Having undertaken Nolan Norton training on the service in the US, I have been involved in many dynamic systems planning projects. I applied the knowledge gained to assist many clients with baseline reviews and IT strategic planning.
IT IMPLEMENTATION
An expert in package selection and implementation, I have used KPMG's global siips (selection and implementation of integrated package software) methodology to assist numerous clients with new software acquisition and implementation.
PROGRAM & PROJECT MANAGEMENT
An expert in program and project management, I have led a number of significant IT projects over the years. I have used KPMG's global methodologies to assist many clients with the effective management of IT programs and projects.
QUALITY SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION
An expert in quality systems implementation, I led one of KPMG's UK regional consulting practices to ISO9001 certification and I have also assisted clients to gain the ISO9000 certificate. Subsequently, I also had national responsibility in Australia for KPMG Consulting’s professional practice review program and ISO9000 certification.
Experience prior to KPMG
I joined Parkinson Cowan Measurement in the UK in the mid-sixties as a graduate trainee. I remained with the company for four years, progressing from computer programming into systems analysis, working on manufacturing applications.
I then joined Seddon Atkinson Vehicles, truck manufacturers, as systems and data processing manager with the responsibility for the total group information technology activity.
I moved next to be the data processing executive with the Mazembe Tractor Company in Zambia, the Caterpillar dealership, with responsibility for all system development activity. After working briefly for NCR in London as a systems consultant, I joined KPMG Consulting
