You can read all about time management skills, but if you never begin to use them, you will never reap the rewards. Getting on track with your time management skills is a difficult step. It is easier when you jump head first into it.

You may seem a little off balance the first week or so, due to the new way of doing things, but after you get use to the newer system; you will find yourself more relaxed and happy. These five time management tips are great ways to get started.

Spare Time v. Free Time

There is a difference between spare time and free time that many people don’t recognize. Spare time is the time you have in between important tasks, while free time is time you have when you have nothing else to do. Using spare time to your advantage is a great time management opportunity. Tasks such as making phone calls can easily be done from your car or while you wait at the doctor’s office, so go ahead and get them done.

Time you have in between meetings is a great time to prepare yourself for the upcoming meeting. Instead of staying up at night preparing, allow yourself to prepare shortly before the meeting, so you will have everything fresh on your mind. These small time management savers will help your overall schedule quite a bit.

Don’t Over Commit

Over committing is a huge problem in families today. Adults are taking on more than they can handle at work, while trying to maintain a happy household. There is so much to do, that everyone gets overwhelmed. The stress and overwhelming feeling can lead to unhappiness if left untreated.

This is a type of problem that needs to be changed through specific behavior. If you are the type of person that cannot say, then you are like more than half of the world today. The inability to say is a huge problem in time management. You should practice saying NO throughout the week and always keep a handy excuse for not being able to take on another task. Honestly saying I just don’t have the extra time is a great approach as well.

Family Schedules

Time management relates to your entire family. If your family has too much going on, then you will have too much going on as well. Many families are pushing their children today to do too many extra activities. While it is important for children to explore many activities outside of school, there is a stopping point.

If you have multiple children, allow each child to participate in one extra-curricular activity at a time. If that is still too overwhelming, allow them to decide as a group what one activity everyone will participate in. This will simplify things for your family. It will also keep the children at low stress levels and leave plenty of time for homework and friends.

Timing Is Everything

Planning tasks for the most appropriate time has a lot to do with great time management skills. If you are someone who likes to get the most difficult things done early in the day, be sure to plan accordingly. If you would rather work late into the night, then plan later in the day. It all depends on your family schedule and when you are most productive.

Obviously if you have children, you probably won’t schedule your important business phone call when they are running through the house. Be aware of your own preferences and the schedules of those around you to get the most out of your day.

Personal Time

Although it has been debated, many researchers feel that spending more time on your self will make your time management skills sharper. Some studies have shown that by exercising each day, workers are more productive and have better time management skills. With this being possible, it is important to schedule time for yourself each day.

Even if it is only a half hour spent walking the neighborhood or reading a book, it will likely help your overall time management outlook. Be sure to schedule personal time when you are most likely to be focused on just yourself. Trying to read a book right before a huge deadline is not likely the best time. You will probably be stressing over the deadline and getting very little quality personal time in.

As Helene Malmsio from TimeManagement Tips website says “Ensure that you have a clear idea of what you need to accomplish in your day and be realistic! You will do yourself no favours by trying to complete a week’s worth of work in one day. All you will accomplish if you try this technique is a big ball of stress in your stomach and a head ache to go with it.”

Learning time management as a tool to stop procrastinating is actually not difficult. It may take time and practice of these time management tips but once you’ve mastered the necessary skills, you will feel less pressured and be able to work better.

Being efficient and effective, by utilizing the best practices for your time management in the workplace is essential to your career development and success. "How to be Invited for Interviews"

Once the application has been sent and the resume received the next thing that should happen is that the employer will be calling to test communication skills by means of an interview. Allowing yourself to be given the option on which employer is best fitting the applicant is one characteristic of being pro-active.

Consider being called by multiple employers for a job interview in a day a good sign. This means that they were really impressed with the documents you submitted, therefore, deserving a personal communication on how most likely an applicant would land the job.

Resumes can present an individual very well. Seventy-five per cent of employers say that applicants with resumes passing their standards would definitely be invited for a job interview. Allow two or more interviews. How? Here are some resumes tips that would give you not only one but more calls for interview:

1. The position that an applicant is interested in should be placed right at the start of the resume. Having this as an objective shows that an applicant is really focused and career oriented tells that he or she knows what is exactly the perfect career for him or her.

2. One of the best significant ways to get the employers' attention is by using words that are really powerful that denotes strong capabilities of the applicant. An example of this is, instead of writing, "assigned to be", write instead "in-charge of," indicating that the applicant has active leadership skills that can be a step to the management position if there is any.

3. A bullet catches the eye of an employer at one look. Use these in itemizing achievements, career highlights, recognition, qualifications, and skills and interests. Words in bullet form forces the employer to read the information provided. These also create more clear space on the paper making the application form or the resume very neat and outstanding.

4. Make sure that the resume is very selective. Only apply for a certain position in one company or organization one at a time. Do not submit resumes with different job interests and positions applied for at one time. This will be a complete waste of time.

5. Ask a pro. Resumes are written with the help of experts who can actually see the applicant's strengths and opportunities.

Aside from preparing an impressive resume carefully follow and read all the special instructions like how many spaces are provided for a specific answer or the number of words for the answer. Keep in mind that this is also a test to see how well an applicant can follow simple rules. Not only does it have to follow the steps, the application form should also be neat. Handwriting is also being considered and using a black pen will greatly add to the formality of the answer. As much as possible, never use a liquid paper or fold and bend the application form and paper.

When answering, be careful not to leave blanks unless it really does not apply. Use N/A only if necessary. Be truthful with all the answers but this does not mean that you have to provide a complete or thorough answer for every question. Always adapt the answers to the job being applied for. Only provide the skills and recognition received that will be beneficial to the new company or employer. However, see to it that the answers provided indicate the reason of being more qualified than the other applicants.

Choose references that can provide the applicant an objective description and information. Teachers, friends, and previous employers can be willing and honest enough to provide that information. The application form must be consistent with the resume.
